The Beauty of Kauai's North Shore

You will love Kauai’s north shore because there is so much to love! Everything is green, lush, and beautiful. The beaches are out of this world, the mountains large and imposing, and the weather seemingly perfect. Waterfalls will catch your attention almost everywhere and especially so after a storm. Everyone has a different idea of where the North shore actually begins so we will consider anything north of Kapa’a as part of Kauai’s north shore.

Some North Shore Sights
As you begin your northern drive from Kapa’a you will come across Kealia Beach. Here you will see lots of people boogie boarding and enjoying the ocean and sand. This beach also provides some cool sights like when two waves, one coming in and one going out, collide. The water shoots up into the air and it is a great photo opportunity.

If you continue driving you will come across Anahola. These Hawaiian homelands are only available to individuals of Hawaiian decent. King Kong’s profile is to the right, which is really Kalalea Mountain. When you are passing the mountain going north you can look back and it really is surprising how much the mountain resembles King Kong!

Continue on your path and you will come upon a great burger joint called Duane’s Ono-Char Burger. This is a great place to stop and eat before continuing on your northward journey. Next you will come upon Larsen’s Beach and Waiakalua Beach, well you will come across paths to take you there. It will require a bit of a walk to actually reach these beaches. If you decide to walk those burgers will really provide the energy you need!

After your beach adventure you will need to keep on driving because there are more interesting sights to see. Next up is the Hawaiian Hardwood. Here you can get out and see the different things they have turned wood into. You might even want to buy some souvenirs.

If you are up for it there is a beautiful tour, it takes about three hours, to see the Na ‘Aina Kai Botanical Gardens. This is at the end of Wailapa Road. There are 240 amazing acres of plants, gardens, a private beach, sculptures, and a teak wood plantation to name some of the more popular sights. It costs around $35 for the tour, but it is breathtakingly beautiful. If you love plants and gardening then you will especially love this tour. Those taking the tour must be older than 13 years old and make reservations in advance is necessary. If you would like a shorter or longer guided tour, from one to five hours, these can be arranged as well.
